Simon Malsom BSc (Hons) MSc

Biology Reporting Manager

Simon Malsom holds a BSc (Hons) in Zoology and a MSc in Forensic Science.  He has worked in Forensic Biology since 2006 as a DNA Analyst, Search and Recovery Scientist and for the majority of his career as a Biology Reporting Manager.

Simon has considerable experience of reporting on homicide and violent, sexual offence and volume crime casework and holds competencies in body fluid interpretation (including blood pattern analysis) and complex and low template DNA profile interpretation.

His primary role has become that of KFS’ DNA Interpretation Specialist focusing on the validation and implementation of continuous model DNA interpretation software (STRmix) as well as overseeing KFS’ day to day DNA interpretation queries at a national level.

Simon has work published in peer reviewed forensic journals and is also KFS’ delegate for the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI) DNA working group meetings.
