Serial Offender Almost Cheats Justice
An individual who was on remand for a series of 30 robberies was due to appear in court within seven days. At the last minute, defence counsel challenged the DNA match as the match had occurred on a pre-PACE DNA sample.
The police attended prison and obtained a DNA sample from the suspect which was then transported directly to Key Forensics to be processed using the new RapidHIT® rapid DNA technology.
The crime scene stains were held by Key Forensics and the comparison work was completed, a statement prepared and sent to the officer in charge. Without this ultra fast DNA profiling using the RapidHIT® technology, it was very probable that the case may have been dismissed and the suspect acquitted.
BUT thanks to RapidHIT® the suspect was found guilty and received 5 years imprisonment.
