Head of Toxicology
Marcus has over 18 years’ experience of reporting forensic toxicology casework. He started his forensic career with the former Home Office Forensic Science Service (FSS) in 1998 where he was trained as a reporting officer in toxicology to assess, interpret and report toxicological evidence from a wide range of biological samples. During his career Marcus has dealt with criminal cases involving road traffic (including alcohol technical calculations), sexual assault/rape, drug facilitated crimes and homicide in addition to providing toxicological interpretation to assist HM Coroners and child custody proceedings.
Upon closure of the FSS in 2011 Marcus became the Principal Forensic Toxicologist for a company which specialised in the testing of hair strands to establish patterns of long term drug and alcohol use covering several months. Marcus joined KFS in 2014 where he has managed the recruitment, laboratory design and eventual ISO/IEC 17025:2005 UKAS accreditation of an in-sourced toxicology service. Marcus has provided expert witness testimony at over 100 courts during his career and is a professional member of a number of forensic toxicology societies, notably UKIAFT, LTG, SoHT and TIAFT.
