Faye Gould BSc(Hons) MRSC

Faye holds the degree of Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science; she is a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Member of the International Association of Forensic Toxicologists (TIAFT).  Faye is an expert in the analysis of body fluids for the presence and quantification of alcohol.

She has been a Forensic Scientist since 2004 and has performed analysis and provided expert testimony on thousands of samples.

John Kennedy

Since retiring from the police, John has practiced as a consultant in forensic video and forensic audio analysis services for UK Law Enforcement Agencies and the legal profession. He has pioneered a number of forensic processes involving complex comparison and Reverse Projection work and these are now used by Law Enforcement Agencies all over the world.  He has attended training in Forensic Video Analysis at the FBI Academy at Quantico and at the University of Indianapolis.

Examples of cases that he has been involved in are the Jamie Bulger case, and numerous high-profile homicide cases.

John has attended as the guest speaker at the National Police Academy at the FBI Academy in Quantico, at the University of Indianapolis Forensic Video Analysis training Lab and at LEVA (Law Enforcement and Emergency Services Video Association) training and development conferences in Washington State, Washington DC, San Francisco, Boston, Chicago and Fort Worth, Texas.

He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and sits on their Advisory Panel for Digital Evidence for Public Safety. He is the Training Program Manager for LEVA with responsibility for organising training for UK and European Law Enforcement Imaging Specialists. He has run intensive training courses on Forensic Video Analysis in UK, attended by majority of UK Police Imaging Officers and European Law Enforcement Agencies, ACPO lead on UK CCTV and Forensic Science Regulator.

He is currently Head of Digital Forensics for Key Forensic Services Limited of which Cogent Forensic Consultants is a division.

Margaret Boyce BSc(Hons) MSc

Margaret holds the degrees of Bachelor of Science in Anatomical Studies and Master of Science in Forensic Science; she is an expert in Human Contact traces (Blood, Body Fluids, Hairs and Blood Pattern Analysis) and Fibres.

Margaret has been a Forensic Scientist since 1984 during which time she has examined many hundreds of items for the presence of blood, semen, saliva, fibres, hairs and other contact traces.  She has attended numerous crime scenes and provided expert opinion on many cases involving the detection of blood and the interpretation of bloodstain patterns.  She has given testimony in cases of murder, sexual assault and other cases involving body fluid transfer and the interpretation of DNA profiling results.

Margaret is also experienced in teaching and lecturing on aspects of forensic science.

Her areas of expertise are: interpretation of current DNA techniques, including mixtures and low template DNA (Low Copy Number, LCN); identification of body fluids, including blood, semen, saliva, urine and faeces; Blood Pattern Analysis (BPA) – at scenes and in the lab, including firearms cases; attendance at scenes of rapes, murder and terrorist incidents;  identification of and comparison of textile fibres, both natural and synthetic; interpretation of damage; identification of and comparison of hairs, including animal hairs.

Helen Haworth BSc(Hons) CBiol MSB

Helen holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Sciences and is a Member of the Society of Biology, and a Chartered Biologist.  She is an expert in Human Contact Traces (Blood, Body Fluids, Hairs and Blood Pattern Analysis) and Fibres

Hazel Madden BSc(Hons) MSc

Hazel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Cellular Pathology and a Master of Science degree in Forensic Science.  She is an expert in DNA, blood and blood pattern analysis, semen and saliva body fluids

Hazel has been a Forensic Scientist since 2002 and has examined numerous items for the presence of body fluids and contact traces and provided expert opinion on her findings, including the interpretation of bloodstain patterns and the interpretation of DNA profiling results.

Her areas of expertise are: interpretation of current DNA techniques, including mixtures; identification of body fluids, including blood, semen and saliva; Blood Pattern Analysis (BPA).

Cell-Site Analysis, Mobile Phones/PDAs

Stuart Fisher HND MIET

Stuart holds a Higher National Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and is a Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology. He worked for Nokia UK Ltd. as a Senior Commissioning Engineer and Project Engineer, directly involved with the installation, commissioning and integration of cellular transmitter sites for the BT Cellnet (now known as O2) and Orange networks. He was also involved with the routine maintenance and upgrades to both of these networks and surveying sites for equipment upgrades and the installation of 3G equipment on both the O2 and T-Mobile networks.

Stuart has been a Forensic Scientist since 2004.  He specialises in Cell Site Analysis and mobile phone examinations. During this time, he has conducted numerous Cell Site Analysis and Mobile Phone examinations and provided expert testimony in many serious cases.

 

Chemistry, Explosives, Gunshot Residues, Material Identification

Dr Roger King BSc(Hons) PhD CChem FRSC

Roger holds the degrees of Bachelor of Science in Applied Chemistry and Doctor of Philosophy; he is a Chartered Chemist, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Registered Analytical Chemist

Roger has been a Forensic Scientist since 1980.  During this time he has attended training in bomb scene investigation and examined a number of explosives cases – including the Aston Inquiry into the convictions of the Birmingham Six, the Omagh bombing and the 21/7 attempt to bomb the London underground.  He provided gunshot residue advice in the Appeal Court’s decision to order a re-trial of Barry George for the shooting of Jill Dando.  Roger is an experienced expert witness who has presented evidence on many occasions at Magistrates Court, Crown Court and the High Court.  He has published several scientific papers on explosives chemistry and methods for the detection of gunshot residues.

His areas of expertise are: explosives; gunshot residues; analytical chemistry.

Computer Analysis

Jason Parker BA(Hons)

Jason holds the degree of Bachelor of Arts. He was a serving Police Officer in the Metropolitan Police Force and then worked as a Digital Forensic Investigator in Devon and Cornwall Constabulary High Tech Crime Unit.

Jason has attended numerous specialist forensic computer training courses, including those run by Cranfield University (UK Defence Academy), National Policing Improvement Agency, and vendor specific courses e.g. Encase.

Jason has investigated many high tech crime cases, involving murder, terrorism, child abuse, through to financial fraud, and theft; providing expert reports and statements to the courts.

Drugs

Justin Gould BSc(Hons) MFSSoc MRSC

Justin holds the degree of Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science; he is a Member of the Forensic Science Society and a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry.  He is an expert in the field of drug analysis;

Justin has performed thousands of examinations of controlled drugs involving importation, possession and supply, ranging from trace amounts to multi-kilogram quantities.

Justin has investigated numerous cannabis cultivation scenes, providing expert opinion in statements involving cannabis yields and cultivation, and opinion in statements involving drug packaging comparisons, drug profiling and mechanical fits of both drugs and drug packaging.

Justin is an experienced Forensic Scientist having given oral testimony in a number of cases involving drug analysis, cannabis cultivation and drug packaging comparisons.

Documents, Handwriting Analysis

Steve Cosslett BSc(Hons)

Steve holds the degree of Bachelor of Science.  He has been a Document Examiner since 1983.  Steve is Head of Section at Document Evidence (our sister company).

He has examined thousands of cases from a wide variety of investigators mainly the police forces of England and Wales, HM Revenue and Customs, the Benefits Agency, and for solicitors in both criminal defence and civil proceedings.  He has been trained to act as a Single Joint Expert.  He is experienced in all aspects of Document Examination, especially the comparison of handwritings, signatures, typescripts, photocopies, counterfeit documents, papers, inks and alterations.

He is an experienced witness and has given evidence on numerous occasions at the Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey), Crown Courts, Magistrates Courts, Industrial Tribunals and Police Disciplinary Hearings, and at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin.  He has given evidence in a number of high profile cases including the Britannia Park Fraud Trial, and in connection with Operation Bangor, the large scale theft of cheques from a Royal Mail sorting office.  He has also worked on a number of other high profile cases such as the enquiry into the postal votes in the Aston Council elections, and the misuse of public funds by NHS employees.

Fire Investigation, Glass, Paint, Particulates

Dan Matthews BSc(Hons) MRSC

Dan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and is a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry.  He is an expert in fire investigation and the examination of glass, paint and particulates.

Dan has been a Forensic Scientist since 1998 and has investigated many fire scenes.  He has also examined numerous items for the presence of glass, paint and other particulates, and provided expert opinion on his findings to the courts. 

Dan is also an expert in Blood and Body Fluids examination and DNA interpretation.

Footwear Marks

David Jarratt-Knock BSc(Hons) MRSC

David holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry; he is a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Member of the International Association for Identification.  He is an expert in footwear marks.

David has been a Forensic Scientist since 1999.  During this time, he has reported hundreds of cases involving footwear evidence, and has given expert testimony in court on numerous occasions.  David has attended a number of serious crime scenes involving footwear marks and he has been heavily involved in the development and delivery of footwear intelligence systems.
