DNA Unit Analyst
Salary :Up to £23,000 pa dependent upon experience
Contract: 12 month Fixed Term Appointment
Location: Norwich

The Team
The right candidate will join a dynamic, motivated, hard-working team focussed on the delivery of high quality, timely results to the Criminal Justice System.  Dedicated high quality training and support will be offered by other team members, and you will have the opportunity to accelerate your personal development. The team is made up of individuals with a range of backgrounds and experience which makes for an interesting and rewarding working environment.        

Duties and Responsibilities
Perform DNA profiling tests on reference and crime stain samples. Ensure compliance with the UKAS Standard, NPIA and Forensic Regulator requirements to produce DNA profiles suitable for loading to the National DNA Database (NDNAD).


1. Carry out laboratory duties as necessary under the direction of the DNA Unit Process Team Leader and accurately perform DNA forensic testing of human biological samples. This will include:
-DNA Extraction
-DNA Quantification
-PCR
-Capillary Electrophoresis
-Analysis of DNA profiles using specialist software

2. Work to strict standard operating procedures in accordance with the requirements of international standards (ISO17025) and health & safety guidelines.

The Person
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who approaches work with a positive attitude.  You will be able to work on your own initiative within a documented framework of instruction.  The successful candidate will take on a high level of responsibility and must be able to show exceptional attention to detail and work to deadlines ensuring all work is to the highest standard.  You will have well developed interpersonal skills.  Previous experience is highly desirable (minimum 1 year in a laboratory environment). 

Education
You will be educated to degree level, in a Science discipline.

Search and Recovery Forensic Scientist
Salary:   Up to £23,000 pa dependent upon experience

The Search and Recovery (S&R) Forensic Scientist will:

• Search items from crime scenes to identify and recover body fluid staining and trace evidence. Examine larger items such as vehicles off-site and attend crime scenes with senior scientists.

• Prepare casework stains and reference samples for DNA (STR) profiling.

• Make contemporaneous examination notes and diagrams as appropriate; create and keep accurate records of all work undertaken.

• Be able to work alone or as part of a team to strict standard operating procedures (in accordance with international standards, including ISO17025).

• Maintain a DNA clean laboratory by following strict anti-contamination protocols.

• Attend court and give factual based evidence where necessary.

Customer Services Administrator
Salary: circa £15,500 pa dependent upon experience
Contract: Permanent
Location: Norwich

The Department
The Customer Services Department (CSD) is responsible for dealing directly with all forensic exhibits entering and leaving our Norwich site. It is a busy and demanding working environment which relies upon good relationship management, attention to detail and teamwork.  The CSD team interfaces with and provides a service to both customers and KFS/FDS employees.

The Job
To support the CSD Co-ordinator in providing a high level of customer service to the Heads of Department and their teams. To respond to customer queries and, follow departmental procedures with a high level of accuracy in what is a strictly regulated environment.  To support day to day administration of the Customer Services Department as required.

The Person
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who approaches work with a positive attitude.  The successful candidate will be able to work on their own initiative and with exceptional attention to detail.  Customer Service experience would be an advantage coupled with good IT literacy in Microsoft Office.   Well-developed interpersonal skills will be essential.

Education
Educated to degree level or equivalent is desirable but not essential.  A scientific background would be advantageous.

Light Goods Driver
Salary:   £16,000 pa
Contract: Full Time, 37 hour week flexible hours 05:00am – 18:00pm
Location: Warrington with frequent travel to other KFS locations

The Department
The Logistics Department is responsible for dealing directly with all exhibits entering and leaving our various sites. It is a busy and demanding working environment which relies upon good relationship management, attention to detail and teamwork.  The Logistics team interfaces with and provides a service to both external customers and KFS employees.

The Job
You will be required to travel anywhere in mainland UK. On occasions a driver will be requested to work irregular hours including extended trips, weekends and occasional overnight stays.  In an emergency situation the driver on call for that 7 day period could be called at any time.
You will be expected to follow departmental procedures with a high level of accuracy in what is a strictly regulated environment. Drivers are required to provide a high level of customer service both internally and externally. You will be expected to deal with all paperwork efficiently and accurately. A clean driving licence is essential, and successful candidates will need to be security cleared prior to commencement of employment.

The Person
We are looking for highly motivated individuals who approach work with a positive attitude.  The successful candidate will be able to work on their own initiative and with exceptional attention to detail. Previous driving experience in a Customer Service environment would be an advantage. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills will be essential.
